How do you pay ULEZ?

You pay ULEZ online at the TfL website, by phone, or by setting up Auto Pay — payment must be made by midnight on the day after you drive in the zone. The daily charge is £12.50 for cars, motorcycles, and vans up to 3.5 tonnes.

Online via TfL:
Visit tfl.gov.uk and use the ULEZ payment portal. You'll need your vehicle registration number and the date you drove in the zone.

Set up Auto Pay through your TfL account and charges are automatically billed to your card whenever your vehicle enters the zone — no manual action needed.

Payment Deadlines and Charges
Payment deadline:
You must pay by midnight on the day after you drive in the ULEZ. Missing this deadline will result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Daily charge for cars:
Cars, motorcycles, and vans up to 3.5 tonnes are charged £12.50 per day. Larger vehicles including HGVs and buses are charged £100 per day.

Penalty for non-payment:
Failing to pay results in a PCN of £180 for cars, reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days.

Use the TfL vehicle checker:
Most petrol cars registered after 2006 and diesel cars registered after 2015 meet ULEZ standards and pay nothing. Check your registration plate at TfL's vehicle checker before assuming you owe a charge.

Exempt vehicles pay nothing:
Electric, hydrogen, and compliant hybrid vehicles are exempt from the daily charge entirely — no payment or registration is required.
